Austrian pianist who was known for his wide-ranging repertoire, based in Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, as well as his prolific recording career.

He came in first at the 1947 Austrian Music Competition.

He worked with some of music’s most distinguished conductors, such as Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan.

He married German/Austrian musicologist Eva Badura-Skoda with whom he formed a highly coveted and acclaimed musical scholarship.

He and his wife also edited one of the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe volumes, which was devoted to printing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s piano concertos.
