Founder of the non-profit education center for the deaf called the John Tracy Clinic for which she was honored with several awards and honorary degrees from several universities.
She graduated with honors from Lake Erie College and later pursued a stage acting career.
For health reasons, she resigned as director of the John Tracy Clinic in 1974.
She was married to Spencer Tracy from 1921 until his death in 1967. Their marriage was flawed, however, because Spencer engaged in extramarital affairs leaving the couple estranged but never divorced.
Her husband was romantically involved with actress Ingrid Bergman.
