Former American welterweight boxer who infamously died following a title bout with Sugar Ray Robinson in 1947. His career ended with a record of 43 wins, 7 losses, and 3 draws.

He made his professional boxing debut in 1941.

While conscious immediately after being struck by a hook from Sugar Ray Robinson in the 9th round, he soon after lost his consciousness. He passed away within hours of being transported to Cleveland’s St. Vincent’s Charity Hospital.

His parents were Edward Delaney and Marie Elodie Barret. He was of Creole descent.

Following his death in 1947, criminal charges were brought against Sugar Ray Robinson, including manslaughter, before eventually being dropped.
