Actor who played Otis Campbell on The Andy Griffith Show. He also voiced a number of memorable characters, such as Owl in Winnie The Pooh, Uncle Tex in The Flintstones and Flintheart Glomgold and Gyro Gearloose in Ducktales.

He was born in Petoskey, Michigan, but grew up in Massena, New York. His mother was a seamstress and his father was a factory worker. After high school, he worked as a disc jockey for a radio station in Utica, New York for seven years.

He served in the U.S. Army Special Services during World War II.
