Accompanist in the 1920s for many of Paramount Records’ singers. He was known for his group Blythe’s Sinful Five.
He appeared with numerous spasm bands, such as the Midnight Rounders and the State Street Ramblers.
His version of Jimmy’s Blues was used by blues pianist Pinetop Smith as the theme on Pine Top’s Boogie Woogie, his hit tune.
He left his birthplace of Louisville in 1916 for Chicago where he studied with pianist Clarence Jones.
