From 1979 until 1981, this People’s National Party leader served as President of Ghana. He was the sole president of his country’s Third Republic.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of London and a doctorate in constitutional law and political science from the Sorbonne (the University of Paris).
In the late 1960s, he headed the European Desk of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During this same period, he helped draft Ghana’s Constitution.
A native of Gwollu, Gold Coast, Ghana, he later settled in Accra. His marriage to Fulera Limann produced children named Baba, Lariba, Lida, Sibi, Salma, Zilla, and Daani.
When Limann was deposed in the mid-1960s, Jerry Rawlings took over as Ghana’s leader.
