Multi-instrumentalist and member of the World Saxophone Quartet. He founded The Clarinet Family in the 1980s.

He started playing saxophone at the age of ten and later attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Harry Carney inspired him to pursue a career as a saxophonist.

He was one of the founders of the Black Artists’ Group of St. Louis in the 1960s.

He was born in Brooklyn, Illinois near St. Louis.

He joined the Charles Mingus Quintet in 1969.
