Chickasaw Indian who went from being an outlaw with Billy the Kid to a senator that represented his people in the inter-tribal Indian council.

He met Billy the Kid while working for the local cattle baron, John Turnstall, and after Turnstall’s murder by the local lawman he embarked on a life of crime.

Eventually he left Kid’s gang to return to his people, where he served as the Chickasaw nation’s attorney general, senator, and speaker of the house of representatives.

He was born in Fort Arbuckle in the Indian Territory, to Thomas Waite and Catherine McClure.

Gene Lockhart starred as one of his fellow gang members in the 1941 classic Billy the Kid.
