Drummer who played with Louis Armstrong and who toured with Armstrong’s All Stars Band and contributed to many of his recordings.

He formed his own band, The Hawaiian Dixieland All-Stars, which toured in Japan and the Hawaiian islands.

He was the drummer on both of Armsrong’s seminal hits “Hello, Dolly!” and “What a Wonderful World.”

He was born in the sugar plantation community of Waipahu in Hawaii. He and his wife Dee had two daughters.

He played on Armstrong’s 1938 song “Jeepers Creepers,” which inspired the 2001 movie by the same name, starring Gina Philips.
