Former U.S. Air Force Colonel remembered for being the last surviving pilot of the Doolittle Raid, the first American aerial attack on Japan during World War II. In June 1942, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions during the raid.

He attended Kent State University before graduating from the U.S. Army Air Corps Flying School in 1940.

The Colonel William Marsh Bower Center in Shalersville Township, Ohio was opened in his honor in 2013.

He had two sons and two daughters with his wife, Lorraine Amman.

He participated in the famous Doolittle Raid, named after the mission’s commander, James Doolittle.
