He studied at the Zurich Conservatory with Emil Frey and Volkmar Andreae, followed by two years with Artur Schnabel in Berlin.

He performed and recorded Othmar Schoeck, Arthur Honegger, Heinrich Sutermeister, and Walter Lang.

His father Carl Aeschbacher was a professor of piano at the Conservatoire.
