Tony Award winning actor for his performance in Lend Me a Tenor. He has also been nominated for a Tony for his performances in The Rape of the Belt, Major Barbara, Heartbreak House, and You Never Can Tell.

His debut on Broadway came in 1960 and it was for The Rape of the Belt. He followed that with performances in productions such as King Lear and Twelfth Night.

He won a Daytime Emmy Award for his appearance in Read Between the Lines.

He married Nancy Ann Dunkle on January 2nd, 1957 and together they had seven children.

He was a regular opposite Glenn Close on the series Damages.
