Puppeteer who created the glove puppet character Sooty, a small yellow bear who made several television appearances.
He was born deaf in one ear which limited his musical abilities and ambitions. However, it did not stop him from playing in his parents fish and chips restaurant growing up.
He first bought the bear in order to entertain his children while on holiday in Blackpool.
He married Marjorie Hodgson in 1944.
His son Matthew Corbett bought out his father after he suffered a heart attack in 1975, and Matthew went on to host TV shows starring Sooty.
